Place & story
Forts, a lake and a cottage
The field-name book for Corcomohide places Castletown in the centre of the parish and records 1,478 acres. Its description locates Cooreagh Fort and Gobnet’s Fort in the southern part of the townland. In the west it lists Knockroe Fort, Knockroe Cottage, Knockroe Lake and Addeen Fort. Separate entries confirm the Castletown locations of Cooreagh, Gobnet’s and Knockroe forts, and of the lake and cottage. These are features recorded by the nineteenth-century survey; the entries do not establish what survives today. [2]
