Place & story
Town and townland in 1911
The census counted seventy-six inhabitants in Grange town in 1911, thirty-seven male and thirty-nine female, in twenty-four occupied houses. A footnote states that the town stood entirely on the townland of the same name. Its estimated ten-acre area was included in the townland’s total of 549 acres, three roods and twenty perches. [2]
The separate rural return
The rural row lists 196 inhabitants, 103 male and ninety-three female. Forty-five of its forty-seven houses were occupied and two empty. The townland appears in Ahamlish parish, Carbury barony and Lissadill North electoral division, within Carney No. 1 dispensary district and Sligo Poor Law Union. These rural figures are separate from the town’s return. [2]
