Place & story
Forty-five inhabitants in the Ballybacon portion
The 1911 census lists forty-five inhabitants under Graigue in Ballybacon parish, twenty-four male and twenty-one female. Nine of its ten houses were occupied and one empty. That portion had sixty-three inhabitants in 1891 and forty-nine in 1901. It appears in Iffa and Offa West barony and Tullaghorton electoral division, within Ardfinnan dispensary district and Clogheen Poor Law Union. [2]
The adjoining parish entry
Graigue also appears under Tullaghorton parish, with eighty-one inhabitants in seventeen occupied houses. Its area and valuation are marked as included with the portion in the adjoining parish. The Ballybacon row supplies an area of 1,335 acres, one rood and twenty perches. The parish rows therefore need to be distinguished when interpreting the population figures. [2]
