Place & story
An island residence and former priory
Samuel Lewis’s 1837 survey records 104 acres of arable land on Inchmore and a residence belonging to R. Sandys. The acreage concerns cultivated land rather than a measurement of the whole island. Lewis also records the former priory’s lease by Queen Elizabeth to Christopher, Lord Delvin. His short account places an estate residence alongside the island’s older religious association, with Inchturk and Nun’s Island nearby. [2]
