Place & story

Thatch beneath the iron

A listed house at 19 Cladymore Road stands in Clady More townland. Its house and earliest farmyard buildings appear on the 1834–35 Ordnance Survey map. The official survey records thatch surviving beneath corrugated iron, apparently added in the 1940s. Rubble-stone walls, a projecting porch and a lobby-entry plan distinguish this two-storey dwelling. The listing includes its outbuildings, gates and gate piers. [2]

The townland in 1926

The 1926 census counted 255 people in Clady More townland, compared with 311 in 1911. Of its 82 houses, 75 were occupied. These figures describe the townland as a whole, rather than a separately enumerated village. [3]
