Collone on the early maps
The History Armagh study of Kildarton's townlands identifies Collone with Calone and records the form Culloine on the Escheated Counties Map of 1609. It places the townland on high ground between Armagh and Markethill, overlooking Armagh. These references establish a documented early spelling and geographical setting for a name that continues in several modern forms. [2]
The Erasmus Smith school record
The Erasmus Smith Schools Archive lists a school at Collone, explicitly identifying its location as Calone in County Armagh. Support was sanctioned in 1841, with the Rev. H. P. Disney named as patron and a grant of £104 recorded. The entry gives 1849 as the year it was discontinued. This is a record of the trust's involvement, rather than proof that all local schooling ended then. [3]
Eighty years of young farmers’ activity
Collone Young Farmers Club marked its eightieth anniversary with a programme of fundraising in 2024. Events included an eighty-mile cycle, a tractor run involving 109 tractors and an anniversary dinner with an auction. In April 2025 the club presented £10,750 to Brainwaves NI.
