Place & story
From Ballekilline to Killeen
Gerry Oates records Killeen as Ballekilline on a plantation map of 1611. An inquisition of 1629 shows the name without that opening element. His study also places Killeen among the townlands taken from Lisnadill when Kildarton was formed in 1840. These references concern the Killeen south of Armagh city, along the Armagh–Newry road. [2]
