Place & story

Saint Comgall’s Church

Saint Comgall’s, the Church of Ireland parish church, stands on Dromore Road near Desertmartin. The parish dates the building to 1821 and describes its outlook towards Slieve Gallion. It forms one part of the local religious landscape beyond the village centre. [2]

A shared education partnership

Knocknagin Primary School’s account records a longstanding partnership with Desertmartin Primary School. Links between principals expanded into joint lessons, staff planning and mixed groups for music, art, cooking and sport. A shared teacher later worked across both schools. The partnership continued through changes of staff and funding until Desertmartin Primary closed in August 2020; during the pandemic, pupils had also maintained contact online. [3]
