Place & story
Sixteen people and a house being built
The 1851 census lists Carn under Boho parish in Clanawley barony. Its sixteen inhabitants comprised ten males and six females, compared with six males and four females in 1841. Three houses were occupied in 1851 and another was being built; a decade earlier there had been two inhabited houses. The return offers a precise early snapshot of this small townland. It records the increase without explaining the movement of families or identifying the unfinished house. [2]
