Place & story

Medieval foundations and later alterations

The Department for Communities dates Derryloran’s surviving ruined church to around 1622. Excavation showed that its eastern end rests on foundations of the medieval parish church, and some earlier stonework was reused. Different window details at the western end suggest that the long, narrow building was extended during the eighteenth century, when its porch and bellcote were added. It remained the parish church until 1822, when worship moved to a new building in the town. [2]
