Place & story

From outskirts to village centre

Ballygowan Presbyterian Church dates its building to 1838 and describes its original identity as Trinitarian Presbyterian. In the congregation’s account, the church once stood at the village’s edge. Later expansion surrounded it, giving the building a central position in the settlement. The church’s own address distinguishes its Church Hill building from the halls on Comber Road. This is an account of the village associated with Ballygowan townland, rather than a description of the whole townland. [2]
