Place & story
A civic building dated 1837
Killaloe Courthouse stands on Courthouse Road in Shantraud townland. Built in 1837, its two-storey front has projecting end sections and cut-sandstone walls, contrasting with the rougher stonework at the sides and rear. Limestone surrounds give the entrances triangular pediments, with overlights above the double doors. Rounded window heads and a horizontal stone band beneath the windows complete the formal frontage. A rubble-stone wall encloses the rear yard. [2]
