Place & story
Separate beginnings and a merger
CEIST’s institutional history dates the Presentation Sisters’ secondary school to September 1957 and the Brothers’ to September 1958. The schools affiliated in 1968 and amalgamated in September 1974. A school building opened in April 1981, followed the next year by science and home-economics rooms. These successive dates describe the development of secondary provision, rather than the first arrival of either religious community in Milltown. [2]
The school opened in 2016
A further building was formally opened by Bishop Ray Browne on 17 May 2016. The Presentation Sisters had purchased its site in 2010; the ceremonial start of construction followed in May 2014. Laboratories, a library, practical classrooms and a sports hall with a fitness suite formed part of the completed facilities. CEIST’s opening report credits former principal Cormac Bonner’s sustained work in bringing the project forward. [3]
