Place & story
St Andrew’s Church
St Andrew’s Church at The Bush was built around 1845 and is associated with the Upton family of Glyde Court. Its stone walls, lancet windows and stepped pinnacles give it a distinctive outline. A bellcote rises above the western gable, while a graveyard surrounds the elevated church site. The former school stands nearby, southwest of the church. [2]
A new role for the schoolhouse
The Bush Old Schoolhouse became a focus for community regeneration in the 2000s. The International Fund for Ireland’s 2009 report described a Church of Ireland group refurbishing the building as a place for wider community use. Its committee worked with the Grange and District Residents Association and planned activities bringing schools together across community and border divisions. [3]
