Place & story

A school’s surviving books

Catherine Costello’s history for Fossa National School dates its foundation to 1840. Its surviving boys’ register begins with John Hurley of Fossa on 5 July 1865; the earliest female register is lost. The school’s daily report books record a new building opening on 25 September 1934. The older books explicitly locate the school in Fossa townland and Aghadoe parish. [2]
