The burial ground below the castle preserves a church gable and a later family mausoleum.
A reliable full-name meaning has not been established here. The recorded Irish and English forms are given without an unsupported translation.
The 2015 Maighne heritage assessment describes Carbury’s walled graveyard below the castle. Only the western gable of its church survived, built in coursed limestone beneath heavy render and carrying a small round-arched bellcote, considered a later addition. A plaque dated 1705 commemorating members of the Colley family was mounted inside, south of the doorway. [2]
An eighteenth-century mausoleum occupies the church’s former eastern end. The assessment records two further plaques there commemorating Colley family members. The graveyard also contains table tombs and headstones with legible dates spanning the eighteenth to twentieth centuries, preserving several forms of remembrance within the same enclosure. [2]
