Henry Bruen’s burial

A Carloviana account of the Carlow militia records Colonel Henry Bruen’s death in Dublin in December 1795. His remains were brought to Oak Park and then to Nurney for burial. The article also preserves a contemporary broadside describing military honours performed by his regiment, then stationed in Waterford. [2]

A cross recorded on paper

The National Library holds a pen-and-ink sheet pairing a cross at Nurney with another at Old Leighlin. William Frazer copied the drawings from George Victor Du Noyer’s work in the Kilkenny Archaeological Society collection. The Nurney title includes the year 1845, although the library leaves the copy itself undated. [3]

A monument in state ownership

The National Monuments Service’s state-care register identifies Nurney’s cross as National Monument 352, under state ownership, with the archaeological reference CW012-048003. That entry singles out the cross itself; it does not place the surrounding churchyard or every neighbouring stone in the same ownership category. [4]
