These Irish name elements are associated with this record in the Logainm glossary.
An element’s translation is a clue, rather than a complete explanation of the name. Its form and meaning depend on local history and the full Irish name.
Castletown’s 1901 census entry records 120 inhabitants, sixty-three male and fifty-seven female. Twenty-four of its twenty-five houses were inhabited and one was empty. The table lists 157 residents in 1881 and 141 in 1891, when thirty and twenty-seven houses were recorded respectively. The townland appears in Kinneigh parish and Castletown electoral division, within Dunmanway Union. The electoral division contained 645 people; that larger total should not be taken as the population of Castletown townland. [2]
Census figures refer to the matched historical census area for each year. Boundaries and spellings can change over time.
